Welcome. I’m Miles.

If you want my professional CV, you can find it HERE.

Otherwise, I figured that you could get the clearest sense of me through some show-and-tell.

First off, I’m a steady-working goofball with a wry affect and a strong sense of civic duty. Professionally, I’m an artist, art educator, and arts organizer. I grew up in a family of entertainers, in LA’s San Fernando Valley. My four great passions are art, education, critical/creative thinking, and environmental stewardship.

These loves have woven themselves into a few different forms over the years. I’ll begin where the weaving starts:

When I was 19, I took over operation of Valley Art Institute, the college-prep art studio I used to attend in Woodland Hills, CA. I’ve been running some form of these classes ever since.

In 2009 we called it the Valley Art Studio School. In 2013, it became the Valley Print Studio. In 2016, the Valley Art Workshop. In 2020, the Valley Art Academy. YOU CAN FIND THAT CURRENT VERSION HERE.

At the same time, I’ve been carving out a career as a fine artist. I’ve exhibited in group shows around the world and have taken on a few residencies: Elsewhere Studios in Paonia CO, 55 ltd etching workshop in Berlin, Germany, and the Camera Obscura in Santa Monica.

I made my mark as a printmaker for a short time, running the Valley Print Studio from 2013 to 2016. I master-printed with artists, gave lectures at institutions around SoCal, and lead workshops in traditional and contemporary techniques. I began facilitating masterclass workshops for other artists, including Jason Shawn Alexander, Benjamin Bjorklund, Stephanie Inagaki, and Nick Runge.

In 2017, I became a zero waste educator and general environmental advocate (HERE), working weekends as a portrait artist (HERE). With a fresh interest in material efficiency, I began honing in on exactly what I wanted to make as an artist, after a good 6 years of multi-media experimentation.

I began applying myself to distinct projects, like my Pink and Black Book Kickstarter (2018) and the Paper Earth Fair (2019), in association with 11:11 A Creative Collective.

In 2021 (and beyond), with new ventures in public art, I’m still refining and combining my passions with an eye towards a fairly simple objective:

Educating, illustrating, and advocating for a world that prioritizes human creativity and environmental mindfulness.
